INDEPENDENT ETHICS COMMITTEE (IEC)

The De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute – Independent Ethics Committee (DLSMHSI-IEC) is a duly recognized body that conducts independent ethical and scientific reviews of research proposals involving human subjects. These reviews are guided by applicable local laws and regulations, standards of professional and research conduct, and are carried out with respect for cultural differences and community values.

The functions of the DLSMHSI-IEC are defined to emphasize the importance of protecting the rights and welfare of human participants at the same time safeguard the integrity of research data. These are done by observing ethical principles and adhering to international and national guidelines in the review of research protocols. Its membership is multidisciplinary and includes medical/scientific professionals and nonmedical/nonscientific members. All IEC members undergo initial and continuing training on research ethics and GCP (Good Clinical Practice). The DLSMHSI-IEC meets at least once a month to review Clinical Trial Protocols. The members deliberate and review investigations proposed by fellows, residents, consultants and other individuals who are interested in conducting their research at the De La Salle Angelo King Medical Research Center (DLSAKMRC).

The DLSMHSI-IEC is accredited by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board.
